Dr. Kerry Owens
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 2002, Dr. Kerry Owens has many years of experience and training to offer the Baltimore area. Trained in a comprehensive program of general surgery and plastic surgery, she found the specialty of plastic surgery to be the perfect fit for her skills, an ideal combination of surgical precision and artistry. Her rare combination of accomplishment and humility puts patients immediately at ease and leads to long term relationships and undeniable patient loyalty as evidenced by her consistently high reviews for both bedside manner and excellent surgical results.
Education
Dr. Owens attended Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH) on scholarship, where she excelled in the pre-med program, achieving Dean’s Highest Honors all semesters. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
After spending a year doing clinical research with the department of Internal Medicine at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Dr. Owens went on to obtain her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine (Columbus, OH). During her second clinical clerkship she unexpectedly fell in love with the discipline of surgery. After a few months, she spent an elective rotation in plastic surgery. It was a perfect fit. She earned a spot in the competitive combined general surgery and plastic surgery residency program at Ohio State and was awarded the Carey Award in Surgery and the Resident Research Award from The Ohio State University Department of Surgery during her time there before returning to Baltimore in 2001.
Professional
After 19 years in group practice in Catonsville, Dr. Owens is excited to embark on the next phase of her career in solo practice. Avalon Plastic Surgery reflects her commitment to meticulous care and continued outstanding results for her patients.
Dr. Owens values the importance of sharing her experience and perspective with the next generation of surgeons and has been involved in the education of surgical residents and medical students at St. Agnes Hospital since 2001. She has participated in resident education for the Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland Plastic Surgery programs. She is also on staff at Howard County General Hospital and Mercy Medical Center and holds privileges at multiple certified ambulatory surgery centers in central Maryland.
An active member of several professional societies including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the Maryland Society of Plastic Surgeons (formerly John Staige Davis Society), Dr. Owens served as president of the state society in 2006.
Personal
Born in Baltimore, Dr. Owens grew up on a farm near Hanover, PA and learned to love quiet time in the great outdoors as much as frequent family trips to Baltimore’s iconic city markets, Inner Harbor, and cultural festivals. Her parents instilled the importance of education and a strong work ethic. She was lucky to have a family who helped her believe nothing was impossible and supported every step in her journey to become a plastic surgeon.
When not caring for patients in the office or operating room, Dr. Owens can be found out on the trails mountain biking, running, or hiking. She has enjoyed helping to coach young mountain bikers through the NICA/MICL scholastic mountain biking league over the past few years. Dr. Owens lives in Catonsville with her husband, Dr. Vic Madrid, and their three children.
